2018 – The first Cactus League and Grapefruit League games of spring training are played today with Major League Baseball paying tribute to the victims of the horrific school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL as all players wear special caps. Proceeds from the sale of this autographed memorabilia will go to a fund dedicated to the victims. Some teams also go further by inviting students and school personnel to meet players and perform various roles at the games as a show of solidarity.

2015 – After singling the night before in his major league debut, 20-year-old Carlos Correa homers in the ninth inning off Zach Duke in a 4-2 loss to the White Sox. He also gets his first stolen base and first multi-hit game. The former overall first pick in the 2012 draft would go on to win Rookie of the Year honors.

The Athletics complete a four-game sweep of the Yankees at The Coliseum, a first since the team moved to Oakland, CA in 1968. The win comes in the 12th inning as Coco Crisp singles in Derek Norris with two outs. It comes after the A’s spot the Yanks a 4 – 0 lead after 4 innings, then come back for the 5 – 4 win.
