On January 4, 1902 — Bill Dinneen, who has averaged nearly 18 wins over the past two seasons for the NL’s Beaneaters (Braves), signs with the year-old Boston Americans (Red Sox). The 24 year-old right-hander, known as ‘Big Bill,’ will win 20 or more contests for the next three years for the cross-town rivals in the upstart American League. He will also win 3 games in the first-ever world series in 1903 including winning the clinching game on October 8, 3-0 vs the Pittsburgh Pirates.
During his 12 year career, he will finish 170 – 177.
