Playing his entire career with the Detroit Tigers, he was one of the best catchers of his era (arguably the best catcher in the 1960s). He was a 11X All-Star, won 5 Gold Glove Awards, and was a key member of the 1968 World Series champion Tigers (25 HR, 84 RBI, .366 OBP ā finishing runner-up to the AL MVP Award in ā68). Defensively, he led AL catchers in putouts 6X and fielding pct. 3X.
