On August 1, 1962 — Bill Monbouquette became the second Red Sox hurler this season to throw a no-hitter, a 1-0 victory over the White Sox at Comiskey Park. The Red Sox pitcher improves his record to 9-10. Five weeks ago, Earl Wilson also threw a no-no, beating the Angels at Fenway, 2-0 on June 26.
Monbouquette, a right-hander who hadn’t pitched a complete game since June 29 and had failed to win since July 8, was overpowering. Only seven flies were hit to the outfield, five of them routine. The Red Sox scored their run in the eighth against Early Wynn, who was seeking the 298th victory of his career.
Bo Belinsky of the Angels pitched the other no-hitter in the American League against Baltimore on May 5. The other no-hitter was tossed by Sandy Koufax of the Dodgers against the Mets on June 30. The last time two men on the same team pitched no-hitters in the same season was 1960 when Lew Burdette and Warren Spahn of the Milwaukee Braves did so.
