On June 21, 1946, future Hall of Famer Bill Veeck purchases the Cleveland Indians. Veeck, the head of a group of new owners, will make headlines in 1947, when he signs Larry Doby as the first African-American player in the history of the American League.

October 19, 1987

1986 – A pitcher’s duel in the Dome. Nolan Ryan allows one hit in 9-1/3rd innings, striking out 14, but Montreal’s Floyd Youmans yields just two hits and fans eight. Glenn Davis breaks the stalemate with a blast off Youmans into the left field seats for a 1-0, ten-inning triumph. Dave Smith gets the win in relief.
