On July 6, 1932, Billy Jurges of the Chicago Cubs is shot twice at a Hotle during a scuffle with his girlfriend Violet Popovich Valli,. Jurges, who is shot in the hand and the shoulder, decides not to file charges against Valli, a local nightclub and theater singer.

Valli will be signed to a 22-week contract to sing in local nightclubs and theaters. She is billed as “Violet (What I Did for Love) Valli – the Most Talked About Girl in Chicago.”
