Bob Thorpe was born on Nov, 19, 1926 in Caryville, Florida. He spent most of his pro career in the minor leagues, with limited action in 1951 and ’52 with the Boston Braves. He was with the Braves in ’53 when they came to Milwaukee. He played right field for the old Milwaukee AAA Brewers most of the 1951 season. The late Bill Topitzes was a clubhouse employee as a young man at both Borchardt Field and County Stadium at that time. He said that at the end of the season most of the players would give him a few dollars as a tip for running errands and doing favors for them. He said Thorpe gave him his car, a rusty old heap that leaked oil, which he drove around for a couple weeks and then directly out to a junkyard.
