Brandon Webb announces his retirement

On February 4 2013 — Brandon Webb, winner of the 2006 National League Cy Young Award, announces his retirement, ending a third attempt at a comeback following a series of shoulder surgeries. He suffered the injury as the starter on Opening Day in 2009 and never managed to make it back to a major league mound.
