The screwballing left-hander wins the game, 1-0, while allowing six hits striking out 12 and no walks in a duel with Tex Carleton, who goes the first 16 innings. He was taken out for a pinch-hitter, and Jess Haines went in but was unfortunate in the I8th when two walks, a sacrifice, a force and Hughie Critz’s single brought in the lone tally of the game. New York made 10 hits against the Cards’ six.
The game ties the National League record for the longest 1-0 nothing game.
In game 2, played in semi-darkness, Roy Parmelee defeats Dizzy Dean 1 – 0, on a Johnny Vergez home run. The notoriously wild Giants pitcher does not issue a walk and strikes out 13.
