Carlton Fisk of the Chicago White Sox hits for the cycle

On May 16, 1984, Carlton Fisk of the Chicago White Sox hits for the cycle in a game against the Kansas City Royals. In spite of Fisk’s history-making day, the White Sox lose the game, 7-6. It was Fisk’s only triple of the year and he joins the 1945 Pirates’ Bill Salkeld as the only catcher this century to hit his lone season triple in a cycle. Salkeld accomplished the feat on August 4, 1945 in a 6-5 losing cause.

The game also features the return of Royals lead-off man, Willie Wilson coming back from a drug suspension. Wilson will go 1-3 with 2 walks in his return. Frank White will say it felt like old times. the Royals were 12-20 coming into the game but they will go 72-58 after Wilson’s return and will win the AL West division.
