Houston’s Brandon Barnes, who goes 5-for-5, scores three times and drives in two runs in the Astros’ 10-7 loss to Seattle at Minute Maid Park, and collects the eighth cycle in franchise history. The Astros center fielder joins Cesar Cedeno (1972, 1976), Bob Watson (1977), Andujar Cedeno (1992), Jeff Bagwell (2001), Craig Biggio (2002), and Luke Scott (2006) when his eighth-inning double completes the historic accomplishment.
Troy Tulowitzki of the Rockies hits for the cycle and drives in 7 runs in an 11 – 5 win over the Cubs. He is the first Colorado player to accomplish the feat since Mike Lansing on June 18, 2000.
Adrian Beltre triples in the eighth inning off Rangers’ right-hander Josh Rupe to become the fourth player in franchise history, joining Jay Buhner (1993), Alex Rodriguez (1997), and John Olerud (2001), to hit for the cycle. The rare event is accomplished twice today, when Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen Drew also collects a single, double, triple, and home run in a game against the Cardinals at Chase Field.
In Arizona’s 8-6 comeback victory over the Cardinals, Stephen Drew singles in the first, triples in the third, homers in the fifth, and doubles in the seventh to complete the cycle. The Diamondbacks’ shortstop becomes the third player in franchise history and the first major leaguer to accomplish the feat at Chase Field, which was formerly known as the Bank One Ballpark.
In a 13 – 1 win by the Twins, Carlos Gomez hits for the cycle, the first Twins player to do so since Kirby Puckett in 1986. Gomez homers off Mark Buehrle in the 1st, triples in the 5th, doubles in the 6th and singles in the 9th, driving in runs on each of the first three hits.
On June 4, 2007, Mark Ellis of the Oakland A’s hit for the cycle in his team’s 11-inning, 5-4 victory over the visiting Red Sox. Earlier in the week, Ellis’ wife gave birth to the couple’s first child, a boy.
Carlos Guillen, in the Tigers’ 10-4 win over the Devil Rays, becomes the tenth player in franchise history to hit for the cycle. The Detroit shortstop stretches a single into a double in his last at-bat in the eighth inning to complete the rare event.
2002 – The Diamondbacks trounce the Padres, 10 – 3, as 1B Greg Colbrunn hits for the cycle. Colbrunn adds a second home run among five hits and drives home four runs for Arizona. Colbrunn is the first player to hit two home runs in a game while hitting for the cycle since George Brett (May 28, 1979).
