HISTORIC EVENTS HALL OF FAME ELECTIONS
The Hall of Fame inducts one of the largest classes in its history before a crowd of more than 50,000 in Cooperstown, NY. Honored are Vladimir Guerrero, Trevor Hoffman, Chipper Jones, Jack Morris, Jim Thome and Alan Trammell, four of them having been elected by the BBWAA and Morris and Trammell by the Veterans Committee.
2017 – First baseman Jeff Bagwell is voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame with 86.2% of the vote, along with catcher Ivan Rodriguez, who played briefly with the Astros, and outfielder Tim Raines. It was Bagwell’s seventh year on the ballot.
Broadcasting pioneer Graham McNamee is named the posthumous winner of the annual Ford C. Frick Award. He described every World Series from 1923 to 1934 for a national audience, as well as the first four All-Star Games
Four players, all elected by the BBWAA, are inducted into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY as the Class of 2015: pitchers Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz, all elected on their first presence on the ballot, and 2B Craig Biggio. Martinez steals the show by dancing on stage and entertaining the large contingent of visitors from the Dominican Republic who have come to witness his induction.
