Two baseball greats whose careers ended tragically, Roy Campanella and the late Roberto Clemente, each of whom already occupies baseball’s Hall of Fame, are named today with twelve others to the Black Athlete’s Hall of Fame. The formal induction ceremony will come on March 13th of next year.

1974 – First baseman Lee May and outfielder Jay Schlueter are traded to Baltimore for infielders Enos Cabell and Rob Andrews. Second baseman Andrews is the guy Houston wants in the deal. He would bat .249 with no homers in two seasons before being traded. Throw-in Cabell is the one who blossoms, becoming a regular for eight seasons as an Astro. 

At the Major League Winter Meetings in New Orleans, LA, the Rules Committee institutes several changes; among the changes is one permitting the use of cowhide, rather than just horsehide, in the manufacture of baseballs.
