The Mets’ officially introduced Sandy Alderson as the team’s new general manager at a Citi Field news conference. The 62 year-old Harvard Law School graduate, who has served as the former president and GM of the A’s and chief executive officer of the Padres, is being allowed to leave his current administrative position with MLB to take the challenging role of rebuilding the directionless organization, that includes the hiring of a new manager for the team.

In Game 2 of the 2010 World Series, the Giants rout the Rangers, 9 – 0, but the score is only 1 – 0 in the 7th when Texas starter C.J. Wilson leaves with a blister on his finger. Matt Cain and two relievers combine on a four-hit shutout. Texas has allowed 20 runs in the first two World Series games in franchise history, setting a major league record.

The Nationals notify Jim Riggleman he will be returning as the team’s manager next year. Washington finished last in the National League East for the third consecutive season, but improved by ten games in the win column, finishing the campaign with 69 victories.

John Farrell emerges from the 18 candidates interviewed by Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos to replace Cito Gaston, the team’s recently retired manager. The former Boston pitching coach’s reputation of working well with youthful hurlers is thought to be a real asset for the team’s new skipper, given Toronto’s talented young rotation.

2010 – Lotte Giants corner infielder Dae-ho Lee, winner of the Triple Crown, is named Korea Baseball Organization MVP for 2010. The Rookie of the Year award goes to Doosan Bears catcher Eui-ji Yang, the fourth straight winner from Doosan.

The Giants capture their twenty-first National League flag when they defeat the Phillies, 3-2, in Game 6 of NLCS at Citizens Bank Park. The decisive blow is Juan Uribe’s two-out tie-breaking home run off Ryan Madson in the eighth inning.

Pleased to be staying in Detroit, Brandon Inge signs an $11.5 million, two-year deal to remain with the Tigers. The 33 year-old infielder, prone to striking out, is better known for his defensive prowess at third base than for his hitting.

Ted Lilly signs a three-year, $33 million deal to remain with the Dodgers. The 34 year-old southpaw, obtained from the Cubs in early August, compiled a 7-4 record with a 3.52 ERA in 12 starts for LA, including victories in the first five starts for his new team.

The Nationals sign general manager Mike Rizzo to a five-year contract extension, promoting him to the executive vice president of baseball operations for the organization. The new position, made available when team president Stan Kasten resigned, gives the 48 year-old more control over the franchise as well as a direct line to the team’s ownership, including principal owner Ted Lerner.

The Cubs select Mike Quade, Lou Piniella’s interim replacement who guided the team to a 24-13 record during the last six weeks of the season, as the franchise’s newest manager. Triple-A Iowa skipper and a Hall of Fame icon Ryne Sandberg, a finalist in the selection process, was thought to be the front-runner for the position.
