Francisco Rodriguez becomes the fourth pitcher in the history of the game to yield two walk-off grand slams in the same season when Justin Maxwell goes deep, giving Washington a dramatic 7-4 victory over the Mets at Nationals Park. Last month, Everth Cabrera of the Padres also hit a game-ending four-run round-tripper, making K-Rod Rodriguez the only major leaguer to surrender two game-winning grand slams to a pair of rookies.

The Phillies win the National League East division title for the third year in a row with a 10 – 3 win over the Houston Astros at Citizens Bank Park. Kyle Kendrick, who spent most of the season at AAA Lehigh Valley, is the winning pitcher.

Adam Lind’s remarkable break-out season for the Blue Jays continues, as he slams three homers in an 8 – 7 win over Boston. His shots are three of Toronto’s six on the day as the Sox suffer their 5th straight loss. They still clinch the American League wild card when Texas loses, 5 – 2, to the Angels.

Chris Iannetta hits a two-run homer off David Weathers in the 11th inning to give Colorado a 7 – 5 win over Milwaukee. The Rockies move one game further ahead of the Braves in the National League wild card race, after Atlanta loses 5 – 4 to Florida.

Atlanta keeps on winning. Today, Jair Jurrjens pitches seven shutout innings in a 4 – 0 win over Florida, the Braves’ 15th in 17 games.

The Angels acquire left-hander Scott Kazmir (8-7, 5.92) from the Rays in exchange for two prospects, left-hander Alex Torres and infielder Matt Sweeney, as well as a highly touted minor league player to be named later. The Rays dealt the 25 year-old talented southpaw, who is in the first year of a three-year, $28.5 million contract, due to restrictions in the organization’s payroll.

The Angels crush Texas, 11 – 0, to clinch the AL West title for the third straight year. Kendry Morales, who has emerged as a top hitter this year, leads the charge with a homer and 3 RBI. The Angels have dedicated the season to pitcher Nick Adenhart, who died in a car crash in April, and honor his memory during the post-game celebrations.

Paul Beeston is appointed for a three-year term as president and CEO of the Blue Jays and the Rogers Centre, the home of the Toronto franchise. In October of 2008, the former MLB president took the position on an interim basis, replacing Paul Godfrey.

The Yankees are assured of the best record in the American League after a 4 – 2 win over Boston. Andy Pettitte picks up the win and, as usual, Mariano Rivera gets the save in New York’s 100th win of the year. New York finishes 9-9 against their bitter rivals, after dropping the first 8 contests between the two teams.

Atlanta beats Washington, 6 – 3, thanks to 3 runs in the top of the 10th, completing a three-game sweep. The Braves have won 6 straight, 10 in a row on the road, and 14 of 16 to displace San Francisco as Colorado’s main rivals for the National League wild card; they are now 2 1/2 games back of the Rockies.
