Cleveland trades pitchers Luis Tiant and Stan Williams to the Twins for 3B Graig Nettles, OF Ted Uhlaender, and pitchers Dean Chance and Bob Miller. Tiant led the American League in ERA in 1968.
The Mets, in one of the worst trades in franchise history, deal outfielder Amos Otis to the Royals for third baseman Joe Foy. The 22 year-old flycatcher will go on to have an outstanding 14-year career with Kansas City and will become a member of the team’s hall of fame, while Foy will play just one season in New York, hitting a meager .236 in 99 games.
The Cardinals trade Curt Flood along with Byron Browne, Joe Hoerner, and Tim McCarver to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Dick Allen, Jerry Johnson, and Cookie Rojas.
