1911 – The Chicago Cubs acquire second baseman Dave Shean from the Boston Rustlers for third baseman Scotty Ingerton and pitcher Big Jeff Pfeffer. This is the second time that Boston has traded with the Cubs for Big Jeff.
1910 – Connie Mack trades Joe Jackson to Cleveland for Bris Lord, a former A’s outfielder.
The Athletics and Red Sox split a doubleheader, each team winning, 1 – 0. The Red Sox also pick up pitcher Jack Chesbro (0-4) on waivers from the Highlanders. The future Hall of Fame member will pitch and lose one game for Boston before calling it quits.
1909 – The Pirates trade 3B Jap Barbeau, 2B Alan Storke, and cash to the Cardinals for 3B Bobby Byrne.

Boston Red Sox trade Cy Young to the Cleveland Naps
1908 – The Cardinals are busy. First they get C Admiral Schlei from the Reds for pitchers Ed Karger and Art Fromme. Then they pack off Schlei, along with P Bugs Raymond and OF Red Murray, to the Giants for veteran catcher Roger Bresnahan. Bresnahan, a future Hall of Famer, will be the player-manager of the Cardinals for the next four years. Raymond lost 25 games in 1908, but a record 11 of them were by shutout.
St. Louis Browns purchase future Hall of Fame pitcher George “Rube” Waddell from the Philadelphia Athletics
After watching Ty Cobb quarrel with a black groundskeeper and with teammate Charlie Schmidt, Tiger manager Hugh Jennings tries to deal him to the Indians for outfielder Elmer Flick. The Tribe’s manager Napoleon Lajoie turns down the deal for the ‘Georgia Peach.’
In a good trade for Boston, they acquire lefty Patsy Flaherty, 2B Claude Ritchey, and OF Ginger Beaumont from the Pirates for good-fielding 2B Ed Abbaticchio. Abbaticchio will lead the National League in fielding in 1908, but Ritchey will lead in 1907, and the other pair will be mainstays.
