On June 16, 1956 — Charlie Grimm, after the Braves lose the 12th game of their last 17 contests, resigns as the team’s manager, being immediately replaced by coach Fred Haney. The 56 year-old skipper, who is offered a personnel position within the organization, leaves the dugout with a 24-22 record, only 3.5 games behind the league-leading Pirates.
