On December 31, 1918, the Chicago White Sox hire Kid Gleason as their manager. Gleason replaces Pants Rowland, who was fired after the Sox finished in fifth place. Gleason will win theĀ American LeagueĀ pennant as aĀ rookieĀ skipper, but it will be tarnished by the improprieties of eight members of the so-called ā€œBlack Soxā€ in theĀ 1919 World Series.
