Cincinnati Reds hurler Ewell “The Whip” Blackwell comes within two outs of pitching his second straight no-hitter

On June 22, 1947 At Crosley Field Ewell Blackwell just misses pitching back-to-back no-hitters when Eddie Stanky of the Brooklyn Dodgers singles with one out in the 9th inning. Blackwell then gets Al Gionfriddobefore Jackie Robinson bangs out a second single. Blackwell wins, 4 – 0, his ninth straight win, to improve to 11-2. Stanky’s hit ends Blackwell’s hitless-inning streak at 19. In 1938, Johnny Vander Meer had pitched consecutive no-hitters for the Reds.
