Cleveland Indians fire popular manager Lou Boudreau
On November 10, 1950 — Amidst much public protest, the Indians fire their popular player-manager Lou Boudreau, who had spent 12 years with the Tribe that included the last nine as the skipper of the team. The surprised Harvey, Illinois native, after compiling a modest .529 winning percentage (728-649), his best showing since 97 victories in the 1948 World Championship season. He will be replaced by minor league manager and future hall of famer Al Lopez. They give Lopez a two year contract and Lopez will guide the Tribe to at least 90 wins in each of his first five seasons, and will finish either first or second in all six of his seasons with Cleveland.
