The Yankees beat down the Red Sox, 11 – 1, with a six-homer barrage, including three by Aaron Hicks, and one by back-up catcher Kyle Higashioka that is also his first major league hit. Luis Severino becomes the first 13-game winner in the majors, while David Price, who gives up five of the long balls, is the loser. The Yanks have now hit 137 homers, setting a new club record for most before the All-Star break.

1964 – The Colts spank the Milwaukee Braves, 5-2 and 5-4, to complete a four-game sweep. Rusty Staub is the opening-game star with four hits, including two home runs. Pitcher Ken Johnson and outfielder Joe Gaines go deep in the nightcap. Bob Lillispicks up five hits in the twinbill. In addition, the team signs high-school phenom Larry Dierker.

1999 – Jose Lima runs his record to 10-2 with a complete-game victory over the White Sox, 8-2. Every Astro in the lineup gets at least one of Houston’s 17 hits except, of course, for Lima who never bats. Daryle Ward is the Designated Hitter, which is used in American League parks.
