On September 7, 2007 — Dave Littlefield is dismissed as general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Littlefield’s tenure is noted for the team’s continued run of losing records. Poor moves this year included the first-round selection of Danny Moskosand a trade for Matt Morris, saddling the team with a large salary and unproductive pitcher. These actions led to a public call for Littlefield’s firing.
