Detroit Tigers sign free agent infielder Darrell Evans

On December 19, 1983, the Detroit Tigers sign free-agent infielder Darrell Evans, who hit 30 home runs and batted .277 for the San Francisco Giants this past season. Evans’ slugging and clubhouse leadership will help the Tigers win the World Championship in 1984. In 1985, at the age of 38, Evans will win the American League home run crown, with 40 longballs.
