Don Sutton is born in Clio, Alabama

On April 2, 1945, future Hall of Famer Don Sutton is born in Clio, Alabama. Sutton will make his debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1966. One of the most durable and consistent pitchers in MLB history, he was a 4X All-Star, led the NL in ERA in 1980, and finished in the top 5 in the NL Cy Young Award voting 5 straight years (1972-76). His uniform #20 is retired by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Don was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1998 (81.6% on the 5th ballot). In his stellar 23-year career (1966-1988), Sutton had 324 wins (14th all-time, tied with Nolan Ryan), 3,574 strikeouts (7th all-time), 58 shutouts, & 3.26 ERA.

Don passed away in January 2021 at the age of 75.
