On June 11, 1989 Dwight Evans plays in his 2,293rd game wearing a Red Sox uniform, surpassing Ted Williams‘ total to become second on the all-time list for games played with the team. Carl Yastrzemski holds the franchise mark, playing in 3,308 contests before he retired in 1983.

1996 – At Tokyo, in the finale of the Japanese team against the MLB All-Stars, Japan rallies for three runs to earn an 8 – 8 tie. The Americans hit .302 in the series with 11 home runs, and come away with four wins, two losses, and two ties. None of the games go to extra innings. Steve Finley, who hit 8 for 20 with 9 RBI, is named MVP.

November 10, 1996

The Angels avoid arbitration when the team agrees to a $5,775,000, one-year deal with Chone Figgins, the club’s versatile switch-hitter. The 30 year-old, who led the team with 34 stolen bases last season, has employed mostly third base, but he has also played second, shortstop, and in the outfield by Halos’ skipper Mike Scioscia.
