Episode 161 – The Mets’ Unearned Victory (with special guest Mark Simon)

In perhaps the weirdest, least likely game ever, the Mets, thirty-five years ago this week, beat the Astros 16-4. All 16 of their runs, however, were unearned. Quite simply, the odds of that were astronomical, so Mike and Bill needed to ask Sports Info Solutions’s senior analyst Mark Simon (@MarkSimonSays) all about it, especially since he was there! Plus, happy birthday to Sad Sam Jones and Hank Bauer!

Daniel Cabrera reaches base safely for the first time in his six-year career when he walks on four straight balls thrown by Florida’s Hayden Penn. Prior to receiving the free pass, the Diamondbacks’ right-hander had previously struck out in all of his 18 major league at bats, setting a major league mark for consecutive strikeouts.
