Felix Hernandez tosses the first perfect game in Seattle Mariners history

On August 15, 2012 — Felix Hernandez tosses the first perfect game in Seattle Mariners history, and the record third perfect game in the majors this year. He dispenses of the Tampa Bay Rays, 1 – 0, using 113 pitches, while striking out 12, including five of the last six batters he faces.

He Joins Philip Humber (White Sox) and Matt Cain (Giants), marking the first time in major league history that three spotless gems have been hurled in the same year. “King Felix’s” 1-0 victory over the Rays at Safeco Field is the first perfect game and fourth no-hitter in Mariner history, which includes hitless games tossed by Randy Johnson (1990) and Chris Bosio (1993) and the combined effort of six pitchers in June. Humber’s gem was also thrown in Safeco Field this season, it is the first time that one stadium had seen two perfect games in a season. Coming into 2012, there had never been a no-hitter at the ballpark.
