On May 28, 1962 — Former Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Don Newcombe signs with the Chunichi Dragons of the Japanese Central League, becoming one of the first and most prominent Americans with Major League Baseball experience to play in Japan. Numerous Americans have participated in Japanese baseball in the prior three decades, including several star players of the 1950s.
