Former major league star John “Pepper” Martin dies at the age of 61

On March 5, 1965, former major league all star John “Pepper” Martin dies at the age of 61. A member of the St. Louis Cardinals’ legendary “Gashouse Gang,” Martin batted .298 over a 13-year career. In 1933, Martin led the National League with 122 runs scored.
