Biography
anchoring the Yankee infield for most of his 17 seasons, Crosetti was always among the fielding leaders. In 1938 and 1939 he led AL shortstops in putouts and double plays. He topped the league with 27 stolen bases in 1938, and his 757 plate appearances that year set a ML record for a 154-game season. He led the AL in HBP eight times.
One of the gameâs great sign-stealers, he was also a master of the hidden ball trick. In his 17 playing years, Crosetti was a member of nine AL Champion teams and eight World Champions. After retiring in 1948, he was the Yankee third-base coach for 20 years, and participated in 15 more World Series. His continuous Yankee service was the longest in the teamâs history.
