Future broadcaster Ernie Johnson released

On Dec. 23, 1958, pitcher Ernie Johnson is officially released by the Braves and signs a free agent contract with the Baltimore Orioles. Johnson had been with the Braves in Boston and Milwaukee since 1950 and had success, mostly as a reliever. However in 1958, he was rarely used and struggled with an ERA of 8.10. He retired after the 1959 season and went on to enjoy a long career as an Atlanta Braves broadcaster.
