November 29, 1971: Gaylord Perry is Traded by the San Francisco Giants with Frank Duffy to the Cleveland Indians for Sam McDowell.
Perry 32 at the time will pitch four seasons for Cleveland and win 70 games and the 1972 CY Young award his first. Perry will return to the NL with the Padres and pick up his second CY Young in 1978 at age 39. At the time he was the only player to win Cy young awards in both leagues. Perry will pitch until he is 44 years old and win 314 and be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
McDowell will win 11 games Over a year and half and get traded mid 1973 and lose all his effectiveness going 8-15 and be out of baseball after the 1975 season at age 32.
