March 24,1952: Gil Hodges straps on the catcher’s gear. When he made the club in 1947, it was a third string catcher. The arrival of Campy the next year spelled the end of any regular catching duties for him. After 1948, he didn’t get into another regular season game as a catcher until 1956. A single game in 1958 represented his ast bow behind the plate.
