On July 8, 1997 — Helping to snap the National League’s three-game winning streak, Sandy Alomar, Jr., belts a seventh-inning two-run home run to lead the Junior Circuit to a 3-1 All-Star Game victory in front of an enthusiastic hometown crowd at Jacobs Field. The 31 year-old Indian catcher, in the midst of a 30-game hitting streak, is named the Midsummer Classic’s Most Valuable Player.
