Hit, Run, Score: 4 Tips You Have to Learn to Win in Baseball Betting

Baseball is America’s pastime, and the main league right now in terms of baseball is the MLB. If you’re a bettor and love baseball, then the MLB is your land of opportunity, and it certainly pays to pick up a few tips in baseball betting.

Ā

In a regular season of MLB, there are over at least dozens of games going from April to October. Thus, if you want to bet on the MLB, here are some tips that might help you become a few dollars richer in every game you bet on.

Bankroll Management

Of course, before you can bet on the games, you must have a bankroll first. Like in billiards, where you need a pool cue to play, a bankroll is needed before you can begin your strategy and start betting.

Ā

The first thing you need to do is to, of course, invest some money in your bankroll. Remember, the money you should be putting in your bankroll is money you’re okay with losing. If you put the money to be used for something important, then don’t put that money.

Ā

Once you establish your bankroll, you must learn how to manage it properly. A bankroll can only go so far if you just bet on it without a care, so if you want it to last for long, you need to learn how to devise a strategy. One common thing that most bettors do is to divide their bankroll into units. Experts usually recommend that every unit is at most 5% of your entire bankroll. That means that if you have $100 in your bankroll, your unit size should be $5.

Ā

Of course, it doesn’t automatically mean you have to put $5 for each bet. Instead, you can spread it among other types of bets. For example, if you think that a particular team will not only cover their spread but outright win the game, then you can put $3 on spread betting, and the remaining $2 will be on the money line.

Bet on Home Underdogs

The MLB regular season is typically composed of 162 or more games. So that would be 81 games for every home team. And as you know, being the home team has its advantages. In the 2019 MLB season alone, the average home record is 42-38. So home teams usually have a slightly higher advantage than away teams. But what does it have to do with our next trip?

Ā

See, finding a home underdog is easy money. This especially holds to quirky places like the mile-high altitude of Colorado’s Coors Field or Boston’s Fenway Park. Back in 2019, 13 home underdog teams played much better. Even for particularly bad teams like the Miami Marlins or Baltimore Orioles, being the home team gave them some success.

Ā

The beauty of betting on the underdogs is that although they are less likely to win, you can surely have your investment back and more if you win, which holds more significance in the long run.

Check the Schedule

For a season fully packed with 162 games, the rest is a treasure for most teams. So unsurprisingly, the team with more rest than the opposing team often has a significant advantage. In fact, during the 2019 regular MLB season, 19 out of 30 teams posted a .500 or better record when they had a significant rest advantage over their opponents.

Ā

Even worse, teams like the Tigers, who lost a whopping 114 games, went 2-1 with a rest advantage. If you see a matchup in one of the teams with a significant time to rest than the opposing team, then betting on the former would be the best decision.

Look at The Divisional Matchups

Every MLB team faces up with the divisional opponent at least 19 times during the season. That’s a lot of time to be familiar with your opponent and how they play. When looking for an underdog, look at their divisional matchups.

Ā

For example, the Tigers won 22 out of 47 games against their American League Central Division opponents. That’s over 46.8 of their victories. On the other hand, the Blue Jays won 33 out of 67 against the AL East Clubs.

Ā

With those stats, you know that most of the time, they are the underdog in those games, but with time and familiarity, they have a lot of chances to upset and win. Sure, betting on the underdog will also make you win less, but for every win, you can be sure that your return on investment will be higher, especially in the long run.

Final Words

With over a hundred games in a regular season alone, there is a lot of money to be made in MLB betting. You just have to be vigilant for opportunities and take them by the neck whenever you see one. If you’re not yet that experienced, following the tips discussed above is a start.
