On August 29, 1951 — At Ebbets field, With his second home run of the game a seventh-inning three-run blast Gil Hodges hits his 36th round-tripper to establish a new franchise record for homers in a season surpassing 35 set by Babe Herman in 1930.

The Dodgers rout the Cincinatti Reds, 13 – 1 behind Don Newcombe. The Dodger first baseman’s Hodges drove in 7 runs and tied Ralph Kiner for the lead in homeruns.  This is also the sixth time Hodges has accomplished the feat this year.  Hodges will end of the year with 40 homeruns and 103 RBI’s. This will be the 3rd straight year for Hodges driving in 100 RBI’s, his 100 RBI streak will continue for 5 more seasons. He will drive in 1,254 RBI’s over his Dodger career and he remains 2nd all time behind Duke Snide (1,271) in RBI’s and he also finished 28 homeruns behind Snider for the franchise all time lead.
