On April 10, 1962, the Houston Colt .45s make their debut with an 11-2 win over the Chicago Cubs. Roman Mejias hits a pair of three-run homers before a crowd of 25,271 fans. The Colt .45s and New York Mets recently joined the National League as expansion teams. Former Yankee hurler Bobby Shantz gets the win-striking out Lou Brock as the first batter.  Hal Smith also homers for the new franchise on the owner Judge Hofheinz’s 50th birthday.
