On August 16, 1970 — In a 5 – 3 Montreal win over the Astros, Bob Bailey hits one of the longest home runs in Astrodome history. Bailey’s shot a two-run shot into  the fifth deck off Denny LeMaster in the ninth inning broke a 3-3 tie leading the Expos to victory. Bailey’s towering drive land­ed about 80 feet above the playing surface in left field. Ihe distance from home plate to where the bell landed was estimated at 435 feet.

“All I could remember,” Bailey said, “is Lemaster’s had real good luck against me. So you might say I wasn’t very happy to see him in there.”
