The White Sox hit seven solo homers but still lose to the Blue Jays, 10 – 8. It is just the third time a team has given up that many home runs and still won a game. Brett Lawrie hits both an inside-the-park homer and a regular one for Chicago, and five teammates join him to tie the team record for long balls, but it’s not enough to overcome four RBIs by Edwin Encarnacion and a lone homer by Toronto, hit by Devon Travis with a man on base.

In the 2018 amateur draft, Auburn University P Casey Mize is selected first overall, by the Detroit Tigers. The first five picks are college players, including C Joey Bart who is selected by the Giants with the second pick, and 3B Alec Bohm, who goes to Philadelphia with the third pick.

The Astros and Orioles engage in a slugfest in Baltimore, with Houston coming out on top, 15 – 8. After George Springer leads off the game with a homer off Wade Miley, the Orioles set a modern record by hitting four home runs before making an out in their first turn at-bat. Facing Collin McHugh, Adam Jones homers on the first pitch, then Hyun Soo Kim singles, and Manny Machado, Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo all homer in succession for a quick 5 – 1 lead. However, the Astros score 5 runs in the 2nd, and keep going from there to win the game. Springer goes 4 for 5 and José Altuve homers and has 5 RBIs for Houston as 8 long balls are hit overall.
