On October 10, 1956 ā In Game 7 of the World Series, Johnny Kucks, allowing just three singles, blanks Brooklyn, 9-0, to give the Yankees their 17th World Championship in franchise history. Yogi Berraās two homers and Bill Skowron hits a grand slam provided more than enough offense. Itās the seventh and final time Brooklyn and the Yankees meet in the Series.
In a twist of faith, it is the last postseason game played at Ebbets Field, the 24 year-old right-hander ends the game by striking out Jackie Robinson, which turns out to be the Dodger infielderās final major league at-bat when he decides to retire after being traded to the Giants in the off-season.
After belting the Yankee pitching staff for 19 runs and 21 hits in the first two games, the Dodger bats went silent in the next five games, scoring only six runs on 21 hits, batting only .142 (21āforā148). New York outscored Brooklyn 22ā6 in Games 3ā7.
