1976 – The New York Yankees sign free agent pitcher Don Gullett for $2 million. Gullett will have a 14-4 record next season, but spend most of the next three seasons on the disabled list.

November 18, 1976

The Tigers get a dominant outing by Max Scherzer to beat the Yankees, 5 – 3, and even their ALDS at one game each. Scherzer does not allow a hit until the 6th inning, while Miguel Cabrera puts the Tigers ahead with a two-run homer off Freddy Garcia in the 1st inning. Closer Jose Valverde struggles a bit in the 9th, giving up a home run to Nick Swisher and a triple to Jorge Posada, but ends the game with the tying run on base.

October 2, 2011

In the last public event in 32 year-old Cinergy Field, over 40,000 fans attend a softball game featuring Reds greats of the ‘Big Red Machine’ against an all-star team of players made up from the same era. Because the game is not affiliated with major league baseball, Pete Rose is allowed to play, and he receives a tremendous ovation from the Cincinnati fans.
