On September 15, 1971 — In just his second major-league start, Cubs rookie Burt Hooton ties a franchise record for a nine-inning game when he strikes out 15 batters, going the distance in the team’s 3-2 victory over New York at Shea Stadium. The 21 year-old right-hander matches the mark established by Dick Drott against Milwaukee in 1957.
