On September 20, 1908 — In the bottom of the ninth inning at South Side Park, Freddy Parent, while being walked intentionally by Eddie Plank, reaches out and pokes a shallow sac fly to right field. The unexpected sacrifice scores the winning run in the White Sox’ 1-0 walk-off victory over the A’s and gives Frank Smith, who held the A’s hitless, his second career no-hitter.
