On September 15, 2012 — Ivan Nova is a winner in his return from the disabled list, 5 – 3, over the Rays. Curtis Granderson and Eduardo Nunez hit back-to-back homers in the 2nd to give the Yankees a 3 – 0 lead, and they never look back. Out three weeks with a shoulder inflammation, Nova picks up his 12th win and puts the Bronx Bombers one game ahead of their main rivals, the Orioles, who lose to the A’s, 5 – 2. For their part, the Rays are now four games back and in danger of falling out of playoff contention altogether.
