Jacob Nelson “Nellie” Fox is born in St. Thomas, PA.

On December 25 , 1927 – Jacob Nelson “Nellie” Fox is born in St. Thomas, PA. Before winding up his playing career in Houston, Fox had been a 12-time All-Star for the Chicago White Sox, winning American League MVP honors in 1959, lead the American League in hits four times, won three Gold Gloves, 288 career hitter playing for the A’s, White Sox, and Astros during his 19 seasons in the big leagues, will become the last active major league player to have Connie Mack as a manager.

He died of skin cancer on December 1, 1975 in Baltimore, MD at age 48. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1997 23 years after he passed away.
