For the second time in his career, Jim Bottomley has six hits in six at bats, as the Cards defeat Pittsburgh 16 – 2 on 23 hits. In the opener, Bottomley contributes four hits, but St. Louis loses to the Bucs, 5 – 4.

1936 – Following the death of Phil Ball, wealthy owner of the St. Louis Browns, his estate sells the team to a syndicate headed by Donald L. Barnes and William O. DeWitt. As the new owners of Sportsman’s Park, they announce their intention to install lights and bring night baseball to the American League.

November 12, 1936

Charlie Finley fires his manager Alvin Dark after the two disagree over the owner’s handling player discipline. ‘Charlie O’ had fined and suspended Lew Krausse, Jr. for the pitcher’s reported rowdy behavior on a team flight, prompting the team’s first baseman Ken Harrelson, who will be also released, to call the A’s owner a menace to the sport.
