On January 7, 2005 — John Henry, the Red Sox owner, calls reserve first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz to discuss the ownership of the game ball used to get the last out of the World Series, now in possession of the infielder. Larry Lucchino, the Boston’s club president, has made it clear he wants the team to own that historic ball, which now resides in the player’s safe deposit box along with an Olympic ring.
