July 23 1969 All Star Game
History of the MLB All-Star game – 1969
National League 9,
American League 3
The American League nearly got a reprieve in ’69. In the 40 innings preceding the game, the Nationals had scored only six runs (and still were unbeatable).
By the end of the third inning, though, the NL already had eight and was coasting, thanks to a murderous assault on Mel Stottlemyre and his successor, Blue Moon Odom.
The AL went quietly to the end for their seventh straight loss. At this point, the team might have echoed the words of former AL star Charlie Gehringer after Carl Hubbell struck out five straight AL stars in 1934: “It was starting to get embarrassing.”
Folks I hope you enjoy todays game. As I always say take this on a walk with you, play it in the back ground, invite a few friends over to listen. Find a way to embrase these treasures.
