On August 29, 1967 — Kansas City’s lead-off batter Bert Campaneris’ three triples at the spacious Municipal Stadium are to no avail as the home team loses to Cleveland in ten innings, 9-8. The A’s shortstop becomes the first American Leaguer to accomplish the feat since Ben Chapman totaled a trio of three-baggers in 1939 for the Tribe.
